Lion cub behavior when the mother hunts
Leaving the cubs behind in a safe location minimizes the risk of them getting injured or killed during the hunt. Predators such as hyenas, leopards, and even other lions can pose a threat to unprotected cubs.
When their mothers are hunting, lion cubs stay hidden and safe, engaging in quiet play and social interactions with their siblings. They rely on the protection of their hiding spots and, occasionally, other pride members. As they grow older, they begin to observe and participate in hunts, gradually learning the skills they will need to survive and thrive as adult lions. This period of waiting and learning is crucial for their development and eventual integration into the pride’s hunting activities.
