Kruger Dragons – Part 1
Here are seven Kruger snapshots – reptiles, mammals, and a bird … and all have something in common. Any ideas?
All of these creatures, some of which are highly endangered, are still poached for use in traditional medicine in Africa and around the world – and even worse, is the fact that these species are just a few of all the species STILL being poached for traditional medicinal uses! Body fats in particular are highly prized as bases for ointments and internal consumption, keratin from horns and beaks is considered medicinal in some countries, and even hyena blood is used. The Kruger National Park is a refuge for all of the species pictured, but even here, they are not 100% safe – but fortunately, anti poaching efforts are improving all the time. Enjoy these sightings … they are special!
